THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND AT THE WELLNESS HUB
Gentle, hands-on relief for pain + tension
Therapeutic ultrasound is a gentle, non-invasive way to ease discomfort, calm tender areas, + support your body's natural recovery. Delivered one-on-one by our Chiropractors and Physiotherapists at Twh, for families across Stoney Creek + the greater Hamilton area.
Therapeutic ultrasound uses gentle sound waves to heal the tissue, ease discomfort, + support your body's own ability to recover.
A GENTLE, NON-INVASIVE APPROACH
Therapeutic ultrasound isn't the kind that takes pictures. It's a treatment your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist applies with a small handheld wand, gently gliding it over the affected area. The sound waves work deep in the tissue to support your body as it recovers.
Continuous ultrasound creates a soft, warming effect that can encourage blood flow [hello, circulation]. Pulsed ultrasound works differently: gentle waves that settle swelling and support the tissue as it heals, without adding heat.
At Twh in Stoney Creek, your treatment is delivered one-on-one by one of our Chiropractors [Dr. Julia, Dr. Devyn, Dr. Katie] or Physiotherapists [Vanessa, Chenya], who'll talk you through what's happening + check in on how you're feeling throughout. We're a short drive for families across the greater Hamilton area, + care is gentle + supportive throughout.
What ultrasound therapy can help with
Therapeutic ultrasound can be a supportive option for a range of soft-tissue discomfort. Right now, our most-requested use is gentle support for breastfeeding parents dealing with a blocked milk duct.
BLOCKED MILK DUCTS
A painful, hard lump while breastfeeding can stop you in your tracks. Ultrasound can help soften the area + support your body as the duct clears.
SUPPORTING RECOVERY
When you're working through discomfort + want gentle, non-invasive support alongside your other care.
TENDERNESS + INFLAMMATION
The achy, inflamed feeling in a specific area. Pulsed ultrasound can help ease discomfort here, settling swelling without adding heat to an already inflamed area.
MAMAS + BABES
Care designed with breastfeeding parents in mind, gentle, judgment-free, + focused on keeping you comfortable while you feed your little one[s].
SOFT-TISSUE DISCOMFORT
Ongoing tightness or soreness in muscles + soft tissue. Ultrasound can be a supportive part of a broader care plan.
WHEN HOME CARE ISN'T ENOUGH
You've tried the things at home... + you want some hands-on support. We're here for that.
What to expect during your visit
Your appointment is designed to feel calm, supportive, + focused on getting you comfortable, especially if you're sore or feeling overwhelmed.
1. A gentle check-in
We start by talking through what you're feeling, how long it's been going on, + anything you've already tried at home. This helps us understand the full picture.
2. A focused assessment
Your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist will gently assess the affected area + make sure ultrasound therapy is a suitable option for you.
3. Your ultrasound treatment
Using a small handheld wand, we apply therapeutic ultrasound over the area, choosing a warming [continuous] or non-warming [pulsed] setting based on what your body needs. The session is non-invasive. Most people find it relaxing. We'll check in with you throughout.
4. Support beyond the visit
You may leave with simple, practical tips for at-home care between sessions, things like positioning, warmth, + gentle movement to support your comfort + recovery.

FAQs about ultrasound therapy
-
It's a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to care for tissue deep below the surface. It can be delivered 2 ways: continuous [a soft, warming effect that can increase blood flow] or pulsed [gentle waves that settle swelling without adding heat, often used when an area is inflamed]. It's applied with a small handheld wand + most people find it relaxing.
-
No. It's gentle + non-invasive. With continuous [warming] ultrasound, you may feel a mild warmth as the wand moves over the area. With pulsed [non-warming] ultrasound, you won't. Either way, the treatment is comfortable, even when the area is tender.
-
